Romania recorded a 4.1% GDP growth in 2018, below the 2017 level, but still one of the highest in the European Union. Retail sales remained solid, as the National Institute of Statistics reported an 8.2% y-o-y growth in the first two months of 2019. Unemployment is low, reaching 3.8% in February 2019, in comparison with 4.4% in February 2018. The average net income is still on the up – a 17.9% y-o-y increase in February 2019.
